Olivia Hackmann scores the 1000th point of her career
Senior guard Olivia Hackmann recently scored the 1000th point of her career. She surpassed the milestone on Thursday, January 26 in a 45-38 victory over Sedalia Smith Cotton. Olivia has signed early with Division 1 Southeast Missouri State. Hackmann is a two-time all district performer and was named to the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association All-State team as a junior.
Lady Crusaders' season winding down as post season looms on the horizon.
Following a tough 31-30 loss to Borgia (ranked #4 in state - class four) in the championship of the Borgia Tourament, the Helias Catholic Lady Crusaders end their regular season with three tough opponents.
The loss to Borgia snapped an eleven game win streak which incuded a 52-46 victory over Borgia in the championship game of the Union Tournament. After a 2-4 start, the Lady Crusaders had won 14 of 15, with the only loss coming at the hands of Mother of Mercy from Cincinnati in the championship of the State Farm Holiday Classic.
Thursday, February 9, they host Boonville. The Lady Pirates boast a potent inside - outside attack. Boonville has one of the top scorers in Mid-Missouri in 3-point specialist Mackenzie Greis, who averages 17.6 points per game. Her 40 3-pt. baskets rank third in Mid-Missouri. Greis also averages 3.2 steals and 3.6 assists per game. To go along with the outside threat of Greis, the Lady Pirates have freshman post player Morgan Edwards, who averages 12.4 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.
The schedule gets even tougher, when Kirksville comes to town on Monday, Februay 13. It will be senior night for girls and boys basketball, cheerleading and dance. The Lady Tigers are ranked #5 in class four in the latest Missouri Basketball Coaches Association poll.
If you think it can't get any tougher than that - well, guess again! The Lady Crusaders end the regular season on Thursday, February 16, with a visit to Columbia Rock Bridge - the #1 ranked class five team in the state of Missouri. Rock Bridge has five players who have been offered Division 1 scholarships - and four of those players are freshman and sophomores!
While a daunting task for the Lady Crusaders, what these three games do offer is the opportunity to sharpen their game against some of the best teams in the state. The Lady Crusaders look to benefit from the experience, as they prepare for the district tournament that will be held at Eldon High School, the home of the state ranked Eldon Lady Mustangs.
It should be an exciting end of the year schedule with numerous challenges.
